Applying to Theatre BFA Programs

Our priority deadline for portfolio submission is March 15 — but we welcome earlier submission at any point after your formal acceptance to the university. This deadline guarantees that your portfolio will be reviewed and decided on before April 1 — a full month before the deposit deadline of May 1. Portfolios that are submitted after the March 15 deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis as space in the department permits.

Acting BFA

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting is intended for the student who wishes to prepare for a successful career as a stage and/or film actor, voice-over artist or in a related field in the performing arts. It is also appropriate preparation for graduate study in acting. The program combines intensive actor training with practical on-stage experience.

Requirements for admission to the BFA in Acting program for first-year and transfer students:

  1. Accepted student status verified by the Admission Office.
  2. Submit video recordings of two 1-minute monologues on your River Hawk Portal:
    • One contemporary drama
    • One Shakespeare
  3. Interview with Department of Theatre faculty, online or in person.

Theatre Management BFA

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre management is intended for the student who wants to pursue a career in theatre operations leadership, stage management, patron services or venue management. It is also appropriate preparation for graduate study in arts management. The program is a demanding blend of training, classroom education and practical fine arts leadership experience.

Requirements for admission to the BFA in theatre management program for first-year and transfer students:

  1. Accepted student status verified by the Admission Office.
  2. Submit two of the following on your River Hawk Portal:
    • Documentation of work in theatre management, coordination or operations; OR
    • Letters of recommendation from educators or theatre professionals familiar with your work.
  3. Interview with Department of Theatre faculty, online or in person.
